Living in a Foreign Country

Living and studying in a foreign country might be a very exciting and unforgettable experience but at the same time a very difficult one. It has a really big effect in one’s life. Let’s start by saying that the first weeks even months you start missing all the things and people you are used to.

It is also very difficult to learn and accept another society and culture. It is very important to learn how to developed in a different environment and conditions and be able to deal with all kind of people. This means to be able to make new friendships, be open to know new places and have new experiences. These imply changing your mind completely and open it to new things.

One of the good things about moving abroad is the fact of being more independent and being capable of organizing your life since all the decisions you take are up to you and all the responsibilities too. All changes are difficult but they help us to build our character.

Here I’ll mention some tips and ideas about what to do when you are living in a foreign country:

● Learn about the country’s history, culture, people and language before you go.
● Interact with the locals and try to make friends.
● Go to festivals and local events.
● Enjoy living in another country.
● Understand what it's like to move to another country.
● Know that culture shock is normal. Try to pick up a bit of the local language. People appreciate it when you make an effort to learn about their language and culture.
● Keep an open mind about differences between your culture and theirs.
